Barabati Fort was constructed in the 13th century by the Ganga dynasty, who ruled over the region. It served as a significant military stronghold and a symbol of their power. Later, the fort came under the control of various dynasties, including the Gajapati and the Mughals, each leaving their mark on its structure and history. The Marathas also occupied the fort for a considerable period. Over time, natural calamities and neglect led to the fort's gradual deterioration. Today, only ruins remain, but they still whisper tales of battles, royal intrigue, and the ebb and flow of power in medieval Odisha. Archaeological excavations have unearthed various artifacts that shed light on the fort's past.
