The Shillong Golf Course was established in 1898 by a group of British civil servants. Initially a nine-hole course, it was later converted into an 18-hole course in 1924. The course's undulating terrain is a natural feature, and the British cleverly incorporated it into the design. Over the years, it has hosted numerous prestigious tournaments and has been patronized by royalty and dignitaries. During World War II, the course was temporarily used as a landing strip for Allied aircraft. Post-independence, the course has been managed by the Shillong Golf Club, which continues to preserve its legacy and charm. It stands as a testament to the colonial era and a symbol of Shillong's rich heritage.
