The history of Saptashrungi is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. Legend says that Goddess Saptashrungi Nivasini manifested on these seven peaks to defeat the demon Mahishasura. The idol of the goddess is believed to be self-manifested (swayambhu) and is carved into a cave wall. The temple has been a pilgrimage site for centuries, with mentions in ancient texts. Over time, the temple complex has been renovated and expanded, attracting devotees from all over India. The Vani village at the foothills of the Saptashrungi hills has also grown in importance due to the temple.
