The history of Shani Shingnapur is rooted in a local legend. It is believed that centuries ago, after a heavy rainstorm, a large black stone was found floating in the Panasnala River. When a shepherd touched the stone with a pointed rod, it started bleeding. That night, Lord Shani appeared in the shepherd's dream and revealed that the stone was his physical form. He instructed the shepherd to install the stone in the village and said that he would reside there. Lord Shani also stipulated that the stone should remain in the open, without a roof, and that no doors or locks should be used in the village, as he would protect everyone. Since then, the villagers have adhered to these instructions, and the temple has become a significant pilgrimage site. The unwavering faith of the villagers and the unique customs have been passed down through generations, making Shani Shingnapur a living testament to its legendary origins.
