    History

Lohagad Fort has a rich and varied history, having been under the control of several dynasties. It was initially ruled by the Chalukyas, followed by the Rashtrakutas, Yadavas, and then the Bahamani Sultanate. The fort played a significant role during the Maratha empire, with Shivaji Maharaj capturing it in 1648 AD. It served as an important treasury and strategic point for the Marathas. Later, it was briefly under the Mughal control before being recaptured by Shivaji Maharaj. The fort also witnessed the rule of the Peshwas. In 1818, Lohagad was captured by the British during the Third Anglo-Maratha War. Its strategic importance throughout history is evident in its robust architecture and commanding position.
