Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary

Established in 1958, Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary holds the distinction of being Maharashtra's first wildlife sanctuary. Initially, its primary focus was the conservation of the Indian Bison (Gaur), whose population had dwindled significantly due to hunting and habitat loss. Over the years, the sanctuary's conservation efforts have expanded to encompass a wide range of flora and fauna. The sanctuary's creation was instrumental in protecting the fragile ecosystem of the Western Ghats in this region. It has faced challenges such as deforestation and human-animal conflict, but continued conservation initiatives have helped maintain its biodiversity.
