Sonagir Jain Temple

Sonagir's history dates back several centuries, with inscriptions suggesting the presence of Jain ascetics and temples as early as the 9th century. The site gained prominence under the Bundela Rajputs, who were patrons of Jainism and contributed significantly to the construction and renovation of the temples. According to Jain tradition, Nandishwardweep, a celestial island, is believed to be near Sonagir. The 57-foot Manastambh (column of honor) stands as a testament to the devotion and architectural prowess of the past. The temples have been renovated and maintained over the years, preserving their historical and religious significance. Sonagir continues to be an important center for Jain learning and practice.
