The history of Chanderi Fort dates back to the 11th century, attributed to the Kirti Pal, a Gurjar Pratihar king. Its strategic importance led to numerous conquests and changes in rulers. The fort witnessed the rule of the Delhi Sultanate, the Rajputs, and the Mughals. In 1528, it was captured by the Mughal emperor Babur after a fierce battle with Medini Rai. The fort served as an important outpost during the Mughal era. Later, it came under the control of the Bundela Rajputs before being captured by the Scindias of Gwalior. The fort stands as a silent witness to the rise and fall of empires, each leaving its mark on its architecture and history.
