The history of Paramekkavu Bagavathi Temple is intertwined with the Thrissur Pooram festival. Legend says the participating temples were once denied entry to the Vadakkunnathan Temple, leading to the formation of Thrissur Pooram. Paramekkavu Temple is one of the two major groups participating in Pooram, the other being Thiruvambady Sri Krishna Temple. The temple's historical significance is further enhanced by its role in preserving traditional Kerala art forms and rituals. Over the centuries, the temple has undergone several renovations and expansions, reflecting the devotion of its followers and its growing importance in the region. The temple continues to be a vital center for religious and cultural activities in Thrissur.
