St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Basilica, Arthunkal

The original church was built by Portuguese missionaries in the 16th century. It was rebuilt in 1602 by Giacomo Fenicio, an Italian priest. St. Sebastian's idol, believed to possess miraculous powers, was installed during this period. The church gained prominence as a center of pilgrimage, attracting devotees seeking healing and solace. Over the centuries, the church underwent several renovations and expansions, reflecting the changing architectural styles and the growing number of pilgrims. In 2010, the Vatican elevated St. Andrew's Church to the status of a Basilica, recognizing its historical and religious importance. Today, it stands as a testament to the enduring faith and devotion of the people.
