Initially established as Jagara Valley Game Sanctuary in 1951, it was later renamed Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary in 1974. The sanctuary's core area was declared as Project Tiger reserve in 1998, further emphasizing its significance in tiger conservation. The region has a history of human habitation dating back centuries, with evidence of iron ore mining during the Hoysala period. Over time, conservation efforts have taken precedence, leading to the protection and flourishing of the diverse flora and fauna within the sanctuary.
The scenery of the place is marvelous. If you go there in early morning, you will experience this yourself. We can take the safari ride in jeeps or in boats. We travelled in Jeep and it cost us like 654 per person and there are ten seats in a jeep. Go there as early as possible because it gets filled with people in a blink of an eye. Although the ride was almost 3 and a half hours long, we did not encounter that many animals. We got stopped in our way by a wild bull. We encountered a leopard and some birds too. There are a couple of small lakes here and there. There is a resting place inbetween the ride where we can fresh up and rest for a bit. The weather was good but pretty cold. Overall, the ride was fun and enjoyable. I suggest you visit it once.
We arrived at the Sanctuary at 2:45 PM and booked our tickets on-site, as there is no online booking portal. Visitors can choose between an open sharing jeep or an open bus for the safari, which lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Afternoon safaris start at 3:00 PM and 4:30 PM. Details about pricing and timings are provided in an attached image. It’s important to carry cash since there are no online payment options, and internet connectivity is unavailable. The safari experience is enjoyable, with opportunities to spot wildlife. However, sightings depend on luck, as spotting wild animals isn't guaranteed.
Good experience as the staff was cooperative. The tour is about first hand view of jungle but not many animals are around. It would have been better if the bus had been an electric vehicle as the noise was noticable in the surrounding.
Great Safari experience through the jungle. You may see some animals if you're lucky. It's worth it.
