The history of Baba Baidyanath Temple is steeped in legends and mythology. According to Hindu scriptures, Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, worshipped Lord Shiva at this site to gain immense power. He offered his ten heads as a sacrifice, and Lord Shiva, pleased with his devotion, cured him of his ailment. Hence, the temple is known as Baidyanath, meaning 'Lord of Physicians'. The temple's origins are believed to date back to ancient times, with mentions in various Puranas. The present structure is said to have been built by Raja Puran Mal of Gidhaur in the 16th century. Over the centuries, the temple has been renovated and expanded, becoming a prominent pilgrimage destination.
