Shalimar Bagh was built by Mughal Emperor Jahangir for his wife Nur Jahan in 1619. It was originally a smaller garden known as 'Farah Bagh'. Jahangir extended the garden and renamed it 'Shalimar Bagh', meaning 'abode of love'. Over the centuries, the garden has undergone several renovations and additions by subsequent rulers.
