Established in 1984, the Great Himalayan National Park was initially conceived to protect the region's rich flora and fauna from increasing human interference. The park's core area was declared a national park to provide the highest level of protection. Over the years, extensive research and conservation efforts have been undertaken to understand and preserve the park's unique ecosystem. In 2014, GHNP was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing its outstanding universal value in terms of biodiversity conservation. The local communities have been actively involved in the park's management, promoting sustainable tourism and conservation practices.
