Following his triumph over Ibrahim Lodhi in 1526 at the First Battle of Panipat, Babur commissioned the Kabuli Bagh Mosque in 1527 to express his gratitude to Allah. The mosque is named after his wife, Mussammat Kabuli Begum. A 'Chabutra', a raised platform, was also constructed near the mosque, speculated to be where Babur addressed his troops. Later, after Humayun's victory over Salim Shah in 1556, he added a platform to the mosque, marking his triumph. This addition reflects the continued significance of Panipat as a site of pivotal battles in Indian history. The mosque has undergone some alterations and renovations over the centuries, but it largely retains its original character, serving as a reminder of the early Mughal empire's power and influence.
