The Somnath Temple has a rich and turbulent history, having been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times. According to legend, the original temple was built by the moon god Soma in gold, later rebuilt in silver by Ravana, and in wood by Krishna. The temple has faced numerous invasions and destructions, notably by Mahmud of Ghazni in the 11th century. The present temple, built in the Chalukya style, was reconstructed in the mid-20th century. Its resilience through the ages makes it a symbol of faith and perseverance.
