The Akshardham complex in Gandhinagar was inaugurated in 1992, a project envisioned and realized by Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the spiritual leader of the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS). It was built as a tribute to Swaminarayan, the founder of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya. The creation of Akshardham involved thousands of artisans and volunteers who dedicated their skills and time to construct this monumental complex. The aim was to create a place where visitors could learn about Indian culture, spirituality, and the life and teachings of Swaminarayan. Over the years, it has become a major pilgrimage and tourist destination, attracting millions from around the world.
Visiting the BAPS Hindu Mandir was a truly enriching experience. The temple’s grandeur during the day is mesmerizing, and as evening sets in, the illuminated structure offers a breathtaking view. Arriving in the late afternoon allowed us to witness both the temple in daylight and its stunning transformation under the evening lights. The peaceful ambiance, combined with the intricate craftsmanship, made the visit feel deeply spiritual and memorable. A must-visit for everyone!
Construction marvel. Lot of restrictions in items you carry. No mobiles, cameras, smart watches permitted inside. You have to deposit all the items at outside counter :- separate for deposit and collection - free of cost. Permissible items like belt, wallet etc needs to be checked as per airport scenario. Double security check - separate for ladies and gents. No photography inside ; forget about getting a snap of yourself with the temple in the background. Vast area, Serene atmosphere, well maintained garden, eating and shopping outlets but you cannot carry the memories in camera - disappointed for that. Laser show is available in the evening 7 pm for which tickets are available for sale at the entrance.
Truly an awe-inspiring experience. This architectural marvel is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of India and the devotion of its people. The temple complex is vast and intricate, covering an area of over 23 acres. The main temple, built entirely of pink sandstone, is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. Its intricate carvings and sculptures depict scenes from Hindu mythology and epics, showcasing the intricate details and artistry of Indian craftsmanship. One of the most impressive features of the temple is the nightly water show. This captivating multimedia spectacle combines water, light, and sound to create a mesmerizing experience. The entire temple complex is meticulously maintained and clean, creating a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, providing visitors with information and assistance. Overall, my visit to the BAPS Akshardham Temple was a truly enriching experience. The temple is a must-visit for anyone interested in Indian culture, architecture, and spirituality. It is a testament to the human spirit and the power of devotion, leaving visitors with a sense of wonder and awe.
