Jal Mandir holds immense historical significance for Jains as it marks the spot where Lord Mahavira, the last Tirthankara, attained Nirvana in 527 BCE. The current temple was built by his brother King Nandivardhan. The temple was built in the middle of the pond because Lord Mahavira's ashes were collected and placed here. The pond is also a symbol of purity and spiritual cleansing. Over the centuries, the temple has been renovated and maintained by the Jain community, preserving its historical and religious importance. The site continues to be a place of worship and reflection for Jain followers from around the world.
