The history of Muchalinda Lake is deeply rooted in Buddhist lore. It's believed that after attaining enlightenment, the Buddha meditated under a Bodhi tree for seven days. During this time, a fierce storm arose. To protect the Buddha from the elements, the serpent king Muchalinda emerged from the lake and sheltered him with his massive hood. This event is commemorated by the statue in the center of the lake, depicting the Buddha seated in meditation, shielded by the serpent. The lake and its surroundings have since become a place of reverence and contemplation for Buddhist pilgrims and visitors.
