The Gaurisagar Tank was commissioned by Queen Phuleswari, also known as Pramateshwari Devi, during the reign of the Ahom king Swargadeo Siva Singha in the 18th century. The tank was named after Queen Phuleswari, who was also known as Gauri. It was dug to provide water for the local population and to serve as a symbol of the Ahom kingdom's prosperity and power. The construction of such a large water body speaks to the advanced engineering skills of the Ahom era. The tank and the surrounding area have witnessed many historical events and continue to be an important part of Sivasagar's heritage. The tank stands as a testament to the Ahom dynasty's architectural prowess and their commitment to public welfare.
